This summer we're challenging you to read different types of books and to read in different places.

For every five books you will recieve a prize, or a raffle ticket for a change at a bigger prize! Don't forget to check our schedules for storytimes, crafts and more going on all summer!

Entering Grades 4-6 in the Fall

Russell Library rocks the summer with Get Your Game ON! Read. Write. Play.  For every book you read AND write a review about, you get ONE raffle ticket.  You choose the books, and how many you want to read and review.  Need a challenge?  Play our Game on Gamer Card game.  Come in to the library and pick a card, any card.  Each card has a challenge on it.  Should you choose to do the challenge, you get a raffle ticket.   Wrapped Book challenge returns!  Pick a wrapped book from the display and a special review form. Don’t unwrap it yet, check it out and take it home.  Unwrap it at home, read it and review it.  You get two raffle tickets for taking on this challenge!  It’s summer reading your way.  Don’t forget to check out our schedules for what’s happening at the Russell Library this summer.

Are you an expert or do you want to learn simple origami? Join us every other Tuesday night in July & August to explore the Japanese art of paper folding - Origami. Let your fingers guide your imagination.

Builder's Club

Due very small parts we ask that children be
5 – 12 years old!

Children ages 5 - 12 are invited to join the Builders’ Club 4-5:30pm on Fridays (see dates above), in the Activity Room.  Join us for afternoons of building with the bricks we all know and love.  Come build with your favorite interlocking blocks!  Each week we will have a challenge, and if you’re lucky, your creation will be chosen to be displayed in our glass case.  Due to the small pieces utilized, we ask that only those children 5 – 12 years of age be actively involved in the program and that they stay and help put pieces away.  Perhaps your “littles” would enjoy our newly reopened Parenting Room.

No, you won’t be eating parsley!  However, you will be playing live action role playing games called “Parsley Games”, we will explore interactive fiction games in this gaming program.  Come and explore gaming the truly old fashioned way.  No vegetables will be consumed during this program!  Due to the challenging nature of the games, this program is only for kids in the grades 4-6.

Grades 5 to 12

Join Maddie Geores, a recent Middletown High graduate, to broaden your art horizons! Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of composition and drawing from life, and learn the basics of mixing colors. During the course, students will take a sketch to a finished painting.

Maddie graduated from MHS, where she received the Connecticut Association of Schools Outstanding Arts award and a Middletown Commission on the Arts award.

This is a four-part workshop; please plan to attend all sessions. Registration is required, in person or by phone, 860-347-2520.

Come down to Russell Library for Family Game Night.  Try your hand at some oldie but goody games; test your skills at something new.  Backgammon, checkers, chess & foosball will be some of the games on hand for you to enjoy!  Sit back and enjoy a simple game of cards if that's your pleasure.

No registration necessary, just a love of gaming the old fashioned way.
